Accessibility Statement

This statement was last updated in May 2025.

The Longniddry Inn is committed to providing a welcoming and accessible experience for all our guests. We strive to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy our facilities, services, and the beautiful East Lothian surroundings.

Our beautiful Inn is listed as a Grade C building by Historic Environment Scotland (listed in 1993), and was once a row of cottages before opening as a public house.  As a historic establishment with over 50 years as an Inn, our building possesses the charm and character of its age. While this means some aspects of its original structure present inherent challenges, reasonable adjustments have been made wherever possible to enhance accessibility for all our guests.

The site is on a slope with differences in level outside and inside and several areas accessed by stairs.  The main entrance gives access to the restaurant via four stairs and the Stables Bar is accessed internally (as well as externally), via four stairs.  We have an accessible toilet by our main entrance.

We are continuously working to improve the accessibility of our premises.

To help us provide you with the best possible experience, we kindly request that you contact us in advance of your visit if you think there may be barriers that would pose an issue for you. This allows us to:

  • Discuss your individual needs in detail.

  • Explain all available options and access routes around and within the premises.

  • Answer any questions you may have.

  • Help you make an informed decision about what areas of the inn will best suit you.

By speaking with us in advance, we can work together to ensure your visit is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Our Commitment

  • Inclusive Environment: We aim to create an inclusive and friendly atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable and respected.

  • Information Accessibility: We endeavor to provide clear and accessible information about our services and facilities.

  • Ongoing Improvement: We are dedicated to regularly reviewing and enhancing our accessibility provisions based on feedback and best practices.

Current Accessibility Features

(Please note, this is a general guide, and we encourage you to contact us directly for specific requirements.)

  • Parking: We have a large car park that is currently unlined however we have two identified accessible bays with signage.  Please note there are curb thresholds that need to be crossed, our portable ramps are suitable to assist with these barriers.  We are currently investigating the car park layout with a view to improve our parking facilities further including curb cutting for easier access.  The car park provides access to the function room, restaurant and bar.

  • Entrances:  Due to the differences in level on site we have multiple portable ramps that can be used at all entrances to the Inn.  These ramps are not out at all times but if this is something that you would benefit from please let us know in advance and we will ensure the ramps are out and ready for your arrival.

  • Quiet Areas:  We have options for quiet tables within the Inn and these are available to book specifically.

  • Table Service:  Table service can be provided in all areas of the Inn on request.

  • Toilets: We have male, female and an existing accessible toilet adjacent to the main entrance and function room (i.  We also have existing male and female toilets adjacent to the Stables bar.  Please note, due to the layout of the building and the gradient of the ground level that the building is constructed across, the accessible toilet can only be accessed via the main entrance.  This requires guests who are unable to use stairs, to exit the building from the Stables Bar or Restaurant and re-enter at the main entrance.  Our staff are trained and are always on hand to assist with this to ensure it is as quick and comfortable as possible.

  • Tables: There are tables by the main entrance available to be booked or made available specifically for guests requiring accessibility with easy internal access to the accessible toilet.  Our Smithy Function room is at the same level as the main entrance.

  • Assistance Dogs: Assistance dogs are welcome. Please inform us in advance if you will be bringing an assistance dog.

  • Dietary Requirements: We are happy to cater to various dietary requirements. Please inform our staff when ordering or contact us in advance to discuss your requirements.

  • Equipment available: on site we have one four foot portable ramp, one six foot portable ramp, one two foot portable ramp and 2 x rubber threshold ramps.
